ArenaPlus users back Alex Eala the most vs tennis' biggest stars

Manila, Philippines - July 10, 2026 - MANILA, Philippines – Alex Eala has made a habit of delivering her best tennis against the sport's biggest stars.

That growing reputation was on full display during her historic Wimbledon 2026 campaign, where ArenaPlus users backed the Filipina more heavily whenever she faced higher-ranked opponents.

According to the latest data from ArenaPlus, the No. 1 PAGCOR-licensed online sportsbook in the Philippines, users showed their strongest confidence in Eala when she faced an elite foe.

Against then-reigning Wimbledon champion and world No. 3 Iga Swiatek in the third round, Eala accounted for 91.51 percent of the total bet count between the two players — the highest among all four of her matches in the tournament.

The 21-year-old Filipina, ranked No. 32 in the WTA rankings, pulled off arguably the tournament's biggest upset by unseating the Polish superstar, 7-6(9), 6-2.

She drew similarly overwhelming support in the Round of 16 against world No. 17 Jasmine Paolini, accounting for 84.64 percent of the total player bet count. Eala, however, eventually bowed out in three sets, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.

Interestingly, Eala did not receive the same level of backing against lower-ranked opponents earlier in the tournament.

Against world No. 75 Renata Zarazua in the opening round, Eala accounted for just 19.63 percent of the total bet count. She also received 41.95 percent of the bets against Australia's Maya Joint in the second round, where she avenged her loss in last year's Eastbourne Open Final with a convincing 3-6, 6-2, 6-0 victory on grass.

The overwhelming support should no longer come as a surprise. After all, Eala has repeatedly shown she can thrive when the odds are stacked against her.

Eala first rose to stardom during the 2025 Miami Open, where she defeated then world No. 5 Madison Keys before stunning then world No. 2 Swiatek in the quarterfinals.

Since then, Eala has continued to build an impressive résumé against the sport's elite, adding victories over Coco Gauff at the 2026 Indian Wells Open, Elena Rybakina and Elina Svitolina at the 2026 Berlin Tennis Open, and Paolini at the 2026 Dubai Tennis Championships.
