Post ReleaseStrengthen partnership through ¥389M grant for Filipino scholars
JICA and DEPDev signed a ¥389 million Grant Agreement to continue the JDS Project, supporting Filipino public servants in pursuing graduate studies in Japan.
The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Department of Economy, Planning, and Development (DEPDev) signed a Grant Agreement worth ¥389 million to support the continued implementation of The Project for Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS Project).
Since its establishment in 2002, the JDS Project has sent 479 young Filipino public servants to Japan, enabling them to pursue graduate studies and strengthen their capacity to contribute to national development. This milestone underscores the enduring partnership between Japan and the Philippines in advancing human resource development and fostering a future-oriented bilateral relationship.
This year marks the final cycle of the four-year framework which the JDS project operates on. It focuses on public administration, finance, trade and industry, infrastructure, environmental management, and disaster risk reduction -- critical areas at the core of the Philippines' policy agenda.
Among the leading Japanese institutions JICA collaborates with are the International University of Japan, Hitotsubashi University, Nagoya University, Meiji University, Kobe University, Rikkyo University, Yokohama National University, and University of Tsukuba, recognized for their excellence in said development fields.
With the signing of this grant agreement, JICA reaffirms its commitment to nurturing the next generation of Filipino leaders and experts through education, innovation, and international cooperation. The JDS Project symbolizes not only a continued investment in Filipino human capital, but also a shared vision for a resilient, sustainable, and prosperous future for both nations.
